Three temples which are famous for lotus flowers launched a campaign called "Lotus Road". We can visit three temples and get Syuincho and Sange with Lotus Road special ticket.

Syuincho is a book for collection of temple seals. Sange is a colored paper in lotus petal shape and is scattered from the roof of the main hall of the temple in order to bless the deceased spirits.

I went to one of those temples, Yakushiji temple.
Actualy although I have lived in Nara for a long time, this was my first visit.

Emperor Tenmu ordered to build Yakushiji temple for praying to cure his wife's disease
in 680. Initially it was built in Asuka area. And then it was relocated to its present place
in Nishinokyo after the capital relocation.

main hall

                                                        west pagoda
east pagoda has been restored by 2019

                                                               lecture hall
It is one of the ancient temple's features
that large lecture hall is bigger than main hall.
Because they valued providing Buddhist education

Lotus was originated in India and had spread to Japan via China.
Although it grows in mud, its flower is so holy and beautiful.
That's why people in India cherish this flower so much.

Lotus flower blooms in early morning and petals close around noon.
And after 4 days, it dies. Lotus flower's life is much more shorter than
cherry blossom.What a fleeting life...

This dignified and beautiful flower seizes our heart.

Temple staff said that this lotus germinated from ancient seeds that used to be there more than 2,000 years ago.

We can enjoy the same flower that ancient people also used to love.
That is a kind of miracle.
