Now is the deer's breeding season.
They have about 200 new born fawns every year in Nara park.
It means that we have a chance to see lots of baby deer!

In general, mother deer have strong maternal instinct and
they are aggressive to protect their own babies.
They might attack people who try to attempt to touch their babies.

So, foundation for the protection of deer in Nara keeps about 200 pregnant deer
in deer shelter called Rokuen not to cause any conflict between people and deer
until the time when they grow up enough to behave like adult deer.

We saw about 20 fawns. Some of them were just born. Some of them were 1 or 2weeks old.
Those adorable baby deer made us so happy.
If you are lucky, you might see the moment of a deer's birth!

They open Rokuen to the public 11:00-14:00 everyday by June 30th.

BTW, foundation for the protection of deer in Nara is engaged in many kinds of activities
like rescue and cure for deers, effort to avoid conflict between people and deers,
investigation research, educational campaign and running some events.
Moreover they run the foundation mainly by donation.
If you are huge fan of Nara or interested in deer in Nara,
please donate to this foundation.
